Taiwan these days is quite a big player. They’ve come up with something phenomenal in order to defend against the Chinese invasion threat. They invented a type of net. Basically this net scans the oceans and the sea for Chinese vessels, if it spots one, it immediatelly reports that to the Taiwanese high command. What the command then does is top secret so I’m not going to disclose that information. Taiwan matters because of a number of things. Number one, it possessess Western tech. While China, South Korea and even Japan play hide and go catch with western technologies, Taiwan is tight in the middle between the United States, and Europe. Taiwan is in the Western circle when it comes to technology and oh my does China want access to all that Western goodness. If China had access to the way the West builds it’s technologies, it could copy them for the next 50 000 years. No, honestly. The backend behind why for that amount of time comes from 4000 years ago. Back then, the West which was mostly Egypt, Maya, Atztec, Greek, and Roman (not to mention a few which would get me in trouble if I did mention). They all had decided on a way to make their technological breakthroughs, and, well, they’ve been doing the same for practically ever. That’s besides the point though. If China had access to that, the West would lose it’s edge. Aside from the technological backlog that Taiwan has, China, tactically, but moreso geopolitically would gain an extreme edge. It would make China very very very powerful into the long-term. It’s GDP could quadruple, twenty years down the line, if it had Taiwan. Thankfully though, it wouldn’t be a cakewalk. Practically speaking, every regional and some non-regional neighbors, notwithstanding Russia would fight gravely in order not to let China take Taiwan. No one wants China to have Taiwan, no one does. Excluding Russia. Even though Taiwan is just a small island, it’s importance cannot be overstated. China would be let out of the cage if it got Taiwan. Not only could it pull off massive invasions, it could also dominate almost every country. Excluding the United States. It would appear that Taiwan is not depending solely on it’s allies in order to defend it’s sovereignty. Sort of following France, Taiwan is developing it’s own superweapons, and Kudos to them. China, while it looks powerful, does not appear to have any developed for themselves. In a one on one of course, China would win, but the outcome of a global conflict like this, which it would become quickly, a global conflict like this with China on one side and Taiwan on the other, China would too lose.
